The Modu Doherty Foundation is committed to seeing poverty eradicated in Sierra Leone. We are currently advancing this goal by establishing programs in the following areas:
An education creates possibilities. The goal of our scholarship initiative is to ensure that students can afford the daunting costs of primary and secondary education. Through organizational and individual sponsors, students with a
desire to pursue learning can apply for academic-year-long scholarships to pursue traditional education, as
well as vocational school education. These options will enable students and their families to be
equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to best provide for their families and local community.
With 60% of Sierra Leoneans living on $1.25 a day, it begs the question of what can they eat on such a tiny budget? This is simply disheartening. The Modu Doherty Foundation is committed to ensuring that no child goes to school hungry. Through partnerships with individuals and organizations, we provide in demand items such as rice, canned goods, cereal, oats, milk, and sugar, among others.
Holiday Care Packages
Put a smile on a child's face, not once or twice, but 3 times a year! Sponsors provide seasonal Care Packages in the Easter season, end of Summer, and Christmas season with items that bring dignity and pride to each recipient. We collect shoe boxes full of items kids and teens will need and appreciate throughout the year. These items include:
In this early season of the Modu Doherty Foundation, our aim is to become a trusted presence through consistent contribution to the targeted communities we serve. This is one of the reasons the long term goal of establishing The Modu Doherty School is so critical. We are working towards securing land and/or a building suitable to serve as the future home of a state-of-the-art school, which provides education and resources for learning that is akin to that of the best schools in the West. We are currently recruiting educators, architects, engineers, interior designers, and individuals who can contribute their talents and time to making a lasting impact in the lives of Sierra Leoneans.
